"Food with purpose" means the unique combination of nutrition and nourishment that is right for you.
The Whole Farmacopoeia explores the cultural, social, physiological, emotional and psychological aspects of why we eat, what we eat, and how we eat.
Are you ready to transition to a whole foods philosophy, learn new recipes, join local community food systems, and add intention to your diet?
Zhuna (pronounced “juna”) founded The Whole Farmacopoeia in 2015 on the island of Maui. As a private chef, she experienced the benefits and the potential of a food-as-medicine approach to health and healing. To dig deeper into food with purpose, she completed a year-long farm school curriculum in regenerative agriculture. She also began exploring the cultural aspects of nutrition and nourishment, working with native Hawaiian groups that are addressing the health disparities in their population through culturally appropriate programs. Upon returning to Idaho, she started working as a chef at a zero waste market, creating scratch-made, farm-fresh, zero waste meals. She now hosts "Food with Purpose" cooking classes, and offers private chef services and food/shopping consultation.
Originally from Boise, Zhuna has worked and studied in Maine, China, Mexico, Idaho and Hawaiʻi. She has over 15 years of experience working on community-based projects that support the healthy integration of humans, culture and the environment. She currently consults on projects that support the integration of health care, culture and local food systems. She is a graduate of College of the Atlantic in Bar Harbor, Maine. Her education in Human Ecology formed the foundation of her work as interdisciplinary, integrative, inclusive, sustainability-minded and community-driven.
